Our Mission
Dodge City First United Methodist church is a place where people encounter Christ, believe, are made new, and go out in service to Christ and neighbor.
What we believe
We believe in God…
We believe in Jesus Christ…
We believe in the Holy Spirit…
We believe the Bible is God’s Word…
We believe when we accept Christ, that we are “saved by grace.”
We believe that Christians should put their faith in action.
But, we do not all believe everything alike!
With faith in God and Jesus Christ, the guidance of God’s active Spirit, and the Bible, we trust each person to discover the personal dimensions of a meaningful faith. We invite you to that joyous discovery at First Church!
First time churchgoers, lifelong United Methodists, people who come from another denomination, all tell us that they found a warm welcome at First United Methodist Church!
We also intentionally welcome those who are still seeking answers about what they believe! Many of us searched for God a long time before we found the joy of faith.
When people are ready, joining our Church and making it your Church family is a simple matter.

Our History
1874
Small Beginnings
Methodism arrives in Dodge City as S.A. Newell organizes a class of 13 people.
1883
Our First Church
Construction begins on the first Methodist church building at First and Spruce Streets.
1913
A Growing Church
A new brick church is built to accommodate a growing congregation.
1929
Making Room to Grow
An educational building and parsonage are added as Sunday School attendance surpasses 500 each week.
1964
A New Home
Construction begins on the church building we know today, with worship beginning in January 1965.
2003–2004
Renewing Our Space
The church undergoes a major renovation, including updates to the Sanctuary and the addition of a new elevator.
2007
A Growing Community
Spanish-language worship is added to serve Dodge City’s growing Hispanic community.
2010
Expanding Our Ministry
A full-time associate pastor joins the staff to serve and shepherd our growing Spanish-speaking congregation.
Today
Still Growing
For more than 150 years, First Church has continued to worship, serve, and share God’s love with the Dodge City community and beyond.
